# What are my options for dealing with a landlord who has refused to make necessary repairs to my apartment in compliance with New York City Housing Law?

As a lawyer, your options for dealing with a landlord who has refused to make necessary repairs to your apartment in compliance with New York City Housing Law include:

**1. Requesting repairs:** The first step is to formally request the repairs in writing by sending a letter to the landlord detailing the repair issues and requesting that they be addressed within a reasonable timeframe. This will put the landlord on notice of the issue and give them an opportunity to address it.

**2. Filing a complaint with the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development:** If the landlord fails to respond to the request or the repairs are not made in a timely manner, you can file a complaint with the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD). **4. Termination of lease:** In extreme cases where the landlord has failed to make necessary repairs over an extended period of time, you may have the option to terminate the lease and move out of the apartment without incurring any penalties or fees.

It is important to keep in mind that there may be limitations or exceptions to the options listed above based on the specific circumstances of your case.
